Abstract
We review the complex history of those species included in the Hypostomus emarginatus species complex and recognize them in Isorineloricaria and Aphanotorulus. Isorineloricaria consists of four valid species: I. acuarius n. sp., I. spinosissima, I. tenuicauda, and I. villarsi. Aphanotorulus consists of six valid species: A. ammophilus, A, emarginatus, A. gomesi, A. horridus, A. phrixosoma, and A. unicolor. Plecostomus annae and Hypostoma squalinum are placed in the synonymy of A. emarginatus; Plecostomus biseriatus, P. scopularius, and P. virescens are placed in the synonymy of A. horridus; Plecostomus winzi is placed in the synonymy of I. tenuicauda, and one new species, I. acuarius is described from the Apure River basin of Venezuela. Aphanotoroulus can be distinguished from Isorineloricaria by having caudal peduncles hat do not become greatly lengthed with size and that are oval in cross section (vs. caudal peduncle proportions that get proportionately longer with size and that become round in cross-section), and by having small dark spots (less than half plate diameter) on a light tan background (vs. spots almost as large as lateral plates on a nearly white background.

Die Gattung Squaliforma wurde zum Synonym der Gattung Aphanotorulus erklärt.
Schon bei der sehr unterschiedlichen Größe der Arten ist das diskusionswürdig.
Wie auch bei anderen Gattungen gibt es zwischen der "amerikanischen" und der "europäischen Welswelt" gewisse Betrachtungsunterschiede. Ich denke, dass es auch hier der Fall ist/sein wird. Aus diesem Grund lasse ich in der Datenbank die Gattung und dazugehörigen Arten weiterhin unter dem Namen Squaliforma.

Squaliforma annae ist nun offiziell Synonym zu Aphanotorulus emarginatus (Squaliforma emarginata)
Bereits im Welsatlas haben Seidel/Evers darauf hingewiesen, dass es sich um die gleiche Art handeln muss.

Aphanotorulus popoi, Aphanotorulus frankei, Aphanotorulus madeirae, Aphanotorulus micropunctatus sind entsprechend der Arbeit nun Synonyme zu Aphanotorulus unicolor

Squaliforma verres/Hypostomus verres wurden zum Synonym von Hypostomus watwata erklärt.

Squaliforma villarsi und Squaliforma tenuicauda wurden in die Gattung Isorineloricaria überstellt, nun also Isorineloricaria villarsi (L93/L195) und Isorineloricaria tenuicauda

Hypostomus winzi wurde zum Synonym von Isorineloricaria tenuicauda.

Squaliforma tenuis wurde in die Gattung Hypostomus zurückgestellt. Jetzt also wieder Hypostomus tenuis.

Neu beschrieben wurde Isorineloricaria acuarius
